"Sometimes, capturing the perfect shot isn't about what's in front of you, but how you see it."

Hi, I’m Jimmy West, a hobbyist photographer based in Sweden with a passion for storytelling through images. My journey with photography started as a creative escape, but it’s grown into something much deeper—a way to explore the world, connect with people, and capture moments that might otherwise go unnoticed.

What I Shoot

I’ve dabbled in many styles of photography, but these days you’ll often find me doing street and documentary work, chasing candid moments while running errands or exploring new places. I also have a soft spot for landscapes, finding beauty in Sweden’s quiet forests and dramatic coastlines. Lately, I’ve been diving into projects that focus on storytelling and emotion—because photography, for me, is all about connection.

My Gear

I’m part of the Micro Four Thirds family, shooting primarily with the OM SYSTEM OM-5 and switch between my Olympus 17 f/1.8 and the Lumix 20 f/1.7. I recently added the Panasonic Lumix G80 to my kit, using it for recording my videos. My gear is all about balance—compact enough to carry anywhere, but versatile enough to handle any scene I encounter.

Why I Shoot

At the heart of it, I’m just curious about the world and the people in it. Whether it’s capturing the light breaking through the trees or the personality in someone’s expression, I aim to tell stories that feel genuine and honest. My photography is less about perfection and more about the feeling a photo can evoke—that quiet moment when everything just clicks.

gear

Main Camera Body: OM SYSTEM OM-5

This is my trusty sidekick and the heart of my photography. It’s small, lightweight, and packed with features that make shooting a joy. Whether it’s landscapes, street photography, or a random photo walk, it handles everything beautifully. Yes, it’s Micro Four Thirds—don’t @ me—but it performs like a champ in every situation. Seriously, I love this camera.

Second & Third Camera Body: Lumix G80(G85 outside of EU) & DJI Osmo Action 4

The Lumix G80 is my newest addition and is dedicated to video work. It’s my main setup for vlogging and capturing B-rolls for YouTube. It pairs perfectly with the Lumix 12-60mm lens for flexibility and ease when recording.

Meanwhile, the DJI Osmo Action 4 steps in when I need something ultra-portable. It’s perfect for my "Photowalk Diaries" series, where I often strap it to my chest for a first-person perspective. While it’s great for quick, on-the-move videos, I lean on the G80 for higher-quality production work.

lenses

M.Zuiko 12-45mm f/4 PRO

This has been my go-to lens for most of my photography. It’s sharp corner-to-corner, compact, versatile AND It’s weather-sealed. I can’t recommend it enough.

Olympus 17mm f/1.8

My newest addition to my collection. It’s a fantastic lens, though not as sharp as the Lumix 20mm, however I find myself using this more currently.

Lumix 20mm f/1.7

One of my absolute favourite focal lengths. I love the 20mm (40mm full-frame equivalent) for its portability and speed. This is what I use when I’m out and about exploring—it’s fast (light-wise, autofocus is slow AF), compact, and lets me focus on the moment.

M.Zuiko 40-150mm f/4-5.6

Plastic fantastic! It’s lightweight, surprisingly sharp, and an excellent addition to the kit. While it doesn’t scream “pro lens,” it gets the job done and then some.

Lumix 12-60mm f/3.5-5.6

This is the kit lens that came with my Panasonic G80. It’s now my main choice for vlogging and capturing B-roll. Sure, it’s a kit lens, but it performs well enough for what I need.

Microphone: Ulanzi U-Mic AM18

It’s a budget-friendly wireless mic system with two transmitters and one receiver. It’s not weatherproofed (unfortunately), so I’m already looking for a replacement (haven’t found anything as priceworthy as this as of 2025-01-27). But for now, it works well enough and keeps my audio clear.

Camera Bag (Cross-Shoulder): SP-Tech Day Shoulder Bag

This compact little bag is awesome. It holds my camera, two lenses (or other accessories), plus extras like batteries and SD cards. Perfect for those quick shoots where I don’t want to haul a full backpack.

Backpack: Manfrotto Manhattan Mover 30

Bought secondhand and it’s been a fantastic investment. It’s comfortable, holds all my gear, and has room for extras. Simple, functional, and it just works.
